Good vs. Bad Website Smackdown

American Eagle is a great website for online shopping. The website has a great visual design and it is "pretty". It's aesthetically pleasing, and showcases images of models wearing their clothes. These images do have purpose because American Eagle is using them to brand their products. In addition, any sales are showcases aesthetically at the top of the site. Next, the website does have a clear purpose. Each tab/category has its own purpose, which brings us to the clear site navigation aspect of the website. It is very easy to navigate. For example, if you're looking for Women's Jeans, you can click the "Women" or "Jeans" categories, and the choose whichever subcategory you are looking for such as "Mom Jeans". Any page you want to get to is less than three clicks away. This website is definitely responsive and easily caters to any device you view it on. The website is fast with each click. What's great about this website is that it has a live chat option. If you click "chat" at the bottom of any page, it will bring up various quick prompts, such as "returns and exchanges" or "cancel or edit an order". This allows for great customer service, which is another aspect of a great website design. Overall, this website is super user friendly and easy to use, while still being aesthetically pleasing to look at.

On the other hand, Zaful is a bad website for online shopping. This website is kind of messy when you first open it up, and it isn't so aesthetically pleasing. There is just so much going on that it's hard to navigate. The site is constantly sliding/ changing images quickly which gets confusing. The site is also just a bunch of words. What stands out to me when searching for clothes is that there are repeating buttons for different things. For example, there is a main button for "swimwear", but when you go under the categories of "women" or "men", there are also buttons for "swimwear".

  1. Great job, Haley! I've enjoyed shopping at American Eagle before so it's cool to see that they have a good website to back up their brand. I had never heard of Zaful before but can agree that their website isn't as clean or easy to navigate as American Eagle's. The abundance of text and changing images on the home page does overwhelm a bit like you mentioned. The clear winner here is American Eagle.

  2. Hi Haley,
I am very familiar with both the websites for American Eagle and Zaful. I do understand the differences between the two. I believe your presentation hit all the major points about how American Eagle is considered a good website and how Zaful is considered a bad website. American Eagle definitely does a good job at making their website look aesthetically pleasing and does a good job at representing their brand by showing images of models wearing the clothes customers can buy on the home screen. Since this website has tabs with specific purposes, it is a really easy website to navigate which makes it very user friendly. Not only does American Eagle have a website but it also has an app so it is also mobile friendly. When comparing American Eagle to Zaful, it is clear to see the differences and downgrades. The website is definitely a little disorganized and messy when it is opened up. There are ads that pop up which can be distracting to the user. The tabs can be a little confusing. I see what you were saying about how the tabs can be a little broad and can mean multiple things. Good job with your presentation!
