Web 2.0 Tool Smackdown: LinkedIn

LinkedIn can be a very useful tool for somebody in an accounting profession. Successful accountants often use LinkedIn to build relationships or referral partnerships, have conversations with clients or potential partners, and establish their trustworthiness. You can easily join partnerships that will promote you and bring in more clients. In addition, an effective way to get more clients is by sharing tips/ articles that may be useful for potential clients. LinkedIn makes this super easy because there is a feature to post anything you want. You could just do a simple post, or post any events, articles, etc., and really anything that you want to share. It's great for educating and communicating with clients as well as sharing news.

LinkedIn is an amazing tool for job searching. In my profile, I can add that I am actively looking for a job and add any specifications. This makes me searchable to recruiters and shows that I am open to job opportunities. This tool would also allow me to communicate with potential employers. Accounting firms often have profiles so it is a great way to learn about firms while job searching.

One of the nice features that LinkedIn has is the ability to join groups. There are hundreds and thousands of groups for really any industry or interest group. I could join any of the thousands of accounting groups and connect with everybody in them. By actively participating in groups, people will get to know you/ trust you and may come to you as a potential client. Being a part of a group is great for building clientele and staying in the loop. It's also just an overall great way to communicate with others in my field and for everybody to share with each other.

  1. Hi Haley. I have been becoming more and more familiar with LinkedIn due to this class. I have been loving making connections and setting up my profile in order to stand out to employers or others within my future and current career fields. I really do agree with you when you say that LinkedIn is a great tool for job searching. Ever since making an account, I have been exposed to tons of different notifications or messages telling me about new job postings. Joining groups is another great feature. Joining some groups has helped me get involved and make meaningful connections with people who are also aspiring to have a future in business marketing. Great job!

  3. Hello, Haley!

I had some experience with this app with my associates, but more so recently with this class that I really built my profile. I love how you shocasted the app, and explained it so thoroughly. I did not know all of the features that you broadcasted, so thank you! It's a very neat tool for individuals. Keeping your network to people you know though, I feel is important.
